2 Corinthians 12:10 ‘Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then I am strong’
Joel 3: 10 Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears: let the weak say I am strong.
Isaiah 56: 3 Neither let the son of the stranger, that hath joined himself to the Lord, speak, saying, The Lord hath utterly separated me from his people: neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree
4. For thus saith the Lord unto the eunuchs that keep my Sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant;
5. Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off
2 kings 4: 2 And Elisha said unto her, what shall I do for thee? Tell me, what has thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not anything in the house, save a pot of oil
3. Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few
4. And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full
Nothing in your hand is insignificant when it comes to working with it. The stories of God brim with examples of insignificant tokens achieving great outputs. The five smooth pebbles in the hands of David that found the exact uncovered spot on Goliath’s forehead. The oil that multiplied as the widow of the prophet poured into borrowed vessels under the direction of Elisha. The five loaves of bread that multiplied in the hands of Jesus to feed five thousand men and untold numbers of children and women. (What’s with the five anyway? Grace? Maybe. We are not told. But I have always believed that there is a good reason for every landscape of discussion in the Bible. That means that there is a good reason for a book on Numbers).
The lesson is simple. In the hands of a person willing to turn their fortunes around in faith, no resource is too simple or without value. Ehud proved to us that no feature of a person is too weak or incapacitating to be turned to an advantage strong enough to bring you out of the corners of oppression.
The blessed assurances of faith do not know insignificance or weakness. They only know the power of faith in the heart of a believer who believes in the goodness of a glorious Father.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for all the different parts of my life. Please help me to see the strength in even those parts of me that the world would despise about me. That which I thought could be of no help or use because the established culture thinks so. Help me to lift it to you, and see what you do from every seed.
