Justice Gertrude: leader, mother & writer

My name is Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo. Though family and close friends know me simply as, Trudy. Others know me as, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

On this website, I share updates on Judicial Service reforms, stories from real Ghanaians interacting with the justice system, and personal reflections on lessons I am learning as a leader, a woman of faith, and a Ghanaian committed to service.

Chief Justice and more

I serve as Ghana’s Chief Justice but before I put my Chief Justice hat on, I am a wife of one, a mother of four beautiful, talented daughters, a grandmother to three (and counting) gorgeous grandchildren and a woman of faith.

I became a judge in 2004 and have worked in the judiciary for over two decades – from the High Court to the Court of Appeal, to the Supreme Court, and now in this role of national responsibility.
