Exodus 19: 7, 8 ‘Moses…. laid before their faces all these words which the Lord commanded him…And Moses returned the words of the people unto the Lord’
Genesis 12: 2 ‘… I will bless you, and you shall be a blessing… In you shall all families of the earth be blessed’
Mankind was not meant to live alone. God created ‘heaven and earth’ and caused the earth to teem with every form of living creature. It is God who declared that man needed help, made him ‘an help meet’ and gave him a partner in Eden. Even God, the omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, is not alone. He is a triune God. A family of Father, Son and Spirit. Think about it.
Help is so necessary that one of the key roles of the blessed Spirit of God with us is as ‘helper’. He helps us to see the kingdom of God, and to enter the kingdom of God. We do not know how to pray, but He intercedes for us in groans too deep for us to understand. He takes of what belongs to Jesus and shows it to us.
In two equally powerful roles, the Holy Spirit teaches us and counsels us on the best way to live and succeed. What to do, and what to avoid. On a day by day and day to day basis, the Holy Spirit teaches us to understand the ways of God and principles of life as we study the Word of God. He speaks of what He hears in heaven to us, that we may know the mind of the Father. This is the role and function of mentors. They provide the voice of one who knows the way, and protect you from mistakes. How blessed it is to have access to a voice wiser than any in our sinful environment when the Spirit of God whispers the sacred pathways to success in all of life’s endeavors. How blessed to have wisdom greater than anything we can conceive of, through the Word of God.
In this relationship with God, He has made us kings on earth, to enjoy the fruits of godliness as we express God’s creativity and love in the work of our hands. And He has made us priests, to bring the knowledge of God, to all who need to know Him and escape death. We need help to work out this eternal mandate, and as much as God is our first helper, He has also made human helpers available to us.
As we walk and work before God, uploading His word and downloading His counsel and love, we experience the blessedness of the fruit of living under the shadow of God’s love. A people of faith and grace, building love in the work of our hands. Purpose is released from the network of love around us and the chain of love moving through us. May you find your purpose in life, and serve it, as you live and move and have your being in Christ. May you have a mentor to guide you on the journey.
Prayer: Lord, help me to remember that you have made yourself available to help me through covenant, your Word and prayer. Help me to read your Word that I will know your mind on every issue of life and live wisely. Help me to receive your blessings and be a channel through whom grace will come to all in my sphere of influence. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, will always be my portion. Amen
