Genesis 15:13 Then the Lord said to him, ‘Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own, and they will be enslaved and mistreated four hundred years.
14 But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions’
Exodus 12:40 Now the length of time the Israelite people lived in Egypt was 430 years.
41 At the end of 430 years, to the very day, all the Lord’s divisions left Egypt.
I enjoy Bible stories. One of the things that drew me to a habit of Bible study is the historical nature of the book. It is mind blowing the way a statement is made in one book, and centuries later, an event recorded happens to be the fulfillment of that prophecy. Revelation 19 says that the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Prophecy testifies of the truth of the mysterious author who worked with such a disparate group writing over centuries apart to create this infinitely threaded narrative.
So is God real? I think that if we are not even convinced by the many confirmations in the order of creation, the beauty of nature, and the love expressed in provision of sun, water, food, health and relationships, we should be convinced by the fulfilling of prophecy. That God is real.
The effect of this truth should be comfort in the trauma of the changing journeys of life. God is real. God cares. God will speak. God will help us. Change is inevitable. But we are not alone. The one who has counted the hairs on our head is the one who wrote our stories, and is the one who will fulfill them.
Be encouraged in every change. Your helper is with you.
