The Red Sea

June 9, 2018

As swiftly as the arrows fly
Word came by hue and cry
Pharaoh said to go
We are free of blows

Burdened and scared
All marched and blared
We rushed to the desert
We were all set to rest

A march of hilarity
Nights of solidarity
Moses has prevailed
Miriam’s song regaled

Till we reached the sea
And found it bleak
Until horse hoofs swung with swords
And our triumph turned to mourns

This too was a plague
This time we are bit and caged
As the sea swelled with pain
And the desert heard our wails
