Heaven is the treasure

Matthew 6:20 ‘But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not breath through nor steal.
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also’
Matthew 5:29 ‘And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell’.
Jesus made no bones about it. Heaven is to be the ultimate treasure in all of life’s pursuit, if we are to regard ourselves as successful. ‘But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you’. God encourages us to live valuing eternity. Thinking about eternity. Investing in eternity. Working for eternity. Avoiding hell in eternity
I heard a renowned preacher ask once – if you were to be given the largest sum of money you can imagine, what will you do with it? Have you identified your ultimate life clearly? That which you consider to be the ultimate manner of living? It helps to do that. This is what leads you to know the depths of your vision, and your heart, and what you consider treasure. Interestingly, the fruit of the Holy Spirit in us is shown by a list of values that our lives reflect. Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance. And the Bible calls most of what we see on television depicted as normal human living as the works of the flesh – adultery, fornication, lasciviousness, envying, strife, wrath, seditions, variance, hatred, murder, drunkenness, partying … Galatians 5:19-23
May you treasure what is truly valuable, so that you will be led to still waters and green pastures by the God whose presence brings values into our lives.
Prayer
Father, help me to value what You value. And seek what You call true treasure.
